66 -- PIMEX PLUS SYSTEM SOL RFQ 99-07 DUE 091099 POC Phyllis Schweickart, 513/533-8185 or Dwight D. Favors, 513/533-8137 Furnish one PI-01 PIMEX PLUS SYSTEM or equal as manufactured by PIMEX Monitoring System, 525 Hot Springs Road, Santa Barbara, CA 93108. Background: PIMEX is the abbreviation for PIcture Mixed EXposure. It was first developed in Sweden at the Institute for Labor Science by Professor Gunnar Rosen. The Schindler Company in Vienna incorporated the applicable methods and technology into an integrated package, known as the PIMEX Plus system. Factors which affect the health of workers include chemical (vapor, gas and dust) and physical (noise, vibration and electromagnetic fields) exposures, ergonomical (muscle stress, temperature, humidity and light) conditions and biological (pulse and respiration) reactions. Real-time instruments and sensors are attached to the worker being video monitored. As the measurement signals are transmitted by cable or radio telemetry, the activities of the worker are recorded by video camera. The PIMEX Plus system superimposes up to eight channels of data represented as either x-y plots and/or bar charts, and/or numeric values, onto the video recording. The recordings are used in research to reduce and eliminate personal exposures in the workplace. Description: The PIMEX Plus system is a combination of custom hardware and software. The centerpiece of the hardware is the non-conventional datalogger. The 12-channel datalogger can process, store and/or relay the measurement signals taken from a variety of portable, direct-reading instruments and sensors. The data transmitted by radio frequency are FCC compliant, requiring no site license. The PIMEX Plus software works in conjunction with commercially-available software (EXCEL) for immediate presentation at the PC. The PIMEX Plus software allows the operator to configure all applicable parameters based upon a menu selection. Some, but not necessarily all, data can be superimposed on videotape. The program allows the operator to select the display format. For the digital display format, icons are used (example: a heart symbol represents heart rate data). Time plots and bar graphs can be appropriately titled (example: "CO" for carbon monoxide poisoning). Minimum Requirements: HARDWARE: Datalogger: on-/off-line measurement, 4MB internal memory, 12 channels, 1 msec-120sec sampling rate, real-time clock, SMD-technic; Radio Telemetry: 1/4-mile effective range, FCC compliant; PC: 300MHz (minimum) processor, 128 MB RAM, 10 GB HD, flatscreen 15-inch TFT, videoeditor panel connections, S-VHS(Y/C), video (FBAS), microphone, headphone, keyboard. SOFTWARE: PIMEX Plus, Windows98, MS Office97, Videoeditor. Requests for the Request for Quotation must be in writing only. You may FAX your request to the following number: 513/533-8283, to the Attention of Phyllis Schweickart. All responsible businesses may submit a written quotation which if received timely will be considered. Simplified Acquisition Procedures will be utilized for this purchase. The anticipated issuance date of this RFQ is August 6, 1999. Posted 07/27/99 (W-SN359491). (0208)
