questions concerning synopsis, sd12@nswc.navy.mil. The Dahlgren
Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWCDD) intends to
competitively procure a parallel distributed computer with 8-Computer
node cluster by using commercial acquisition procedures. The required
parallel distributed computer must as a minimum meet or exceed the
following requirements: Every computer node shall have a Dual Pentium
III motherboard. Every computer node shall have two Pentium III 500MHz
Processors installed with 512K or ECC cache. Every computer node shall
have two Pentium III Cooling Fans with Ball Bearings. Every computer
node shall have a 400W Power Supply. Every computer node shall have two
DIMM SDRAM PC100 (128MB) 16 X 72 chips (256MB total). Every computer
node shall be enclosed in a 4U 19in. Rack-mountable chassis with at
least four front-mounted cooling fans. Every Rack-mountable chassis
shall be mounted on a slide. Every computer node shall have a 1.44MB
3.5" Floppy Drive. Every computer node shall have at least a 9.1GB
Ultra2/Wide SCSI 7200RPM Hard drive. Every computer node shall have at
least 4MB video card. Every computer node shall have a 10/100 PCI
Ethernet Adapter. Every computer node shall have a SCSI 40X CDROM
drive. Every computer node shall be configured as real-time simulation
processors and shall contain the following additional hardware and
software: Four (5) of the real-time computer nodes shall have Systran
PCI SCRAMNet+ Fiber Media cards w/ 512K of memory (Model
#H-AS-DPCIN512-20; Two (2) of the real-time computer nodes shall have
SBS Bit3 PCI-to-VME bus fiber adapters (Model #618) and 25m fiber-optic
interconnect cables (Model #15-102); All six (6) of the real-time
computer node shall be configured with Microsoft Windows NT Workstation
v4.0. Two (2) of the computer nodes shall be configured as general
purpose simulation development and data analysis platforms and shall
contain the following additional hardware and software: Windows NT
Terminal Server v4.0 (10 Users), Microsoft Visual C++ v6.0 Professional
Edition (Intel), Microsoft Visual Source Safev6.0 (Intel), DEC Visual
Fortran v6.0 Standard Edition (Intel). The communications from computer
node shall be implemented with a fast-switched Ethernet network (10/100
switches). The system shall have two additional 12-port fast-switched
Ethernet switches to facilitate integration into an existing network.
Every switch shall be Rack-mountable and on a slide. The system shall
include a Rack-mountable Network-Appliance NetAPP F720 with 85GB of
disk storage and shall be configured with NetApp Networking Software
3.0 for Windows and NetApp NFS connectivity software and a 10/100
Ethernet connection. The system shall have a 2U Rack-mountable 13.8"
TFT color monitor with a full-size keyboard and pointing device. The
monitor and keyboard shall be able to access any computer node in the
cluster without the modification of any cables. The system shall have
UPS's and UPS software that allow for proper shutdown of the complete
system upon a power outage. All hardware for the system, except for the
UPS's shall be contained within two separate Racks. The height of each
rack shall not exceed 70 inches usable space. The depth of each rack
shall not exceed 30 inches. Each Rack shall have a usable clear front
door. Each Rack shall have a back door. Each Rack shall be ventilated
with fans. Every computer node shall be required to maintain an
operating temperature in the hard drive bay below 90 degrees Fahrenheit
when enclosed in a rack. This temperature shall be maintained in a
regular air-conditioned office space. The SIC Code for this procurement
is 3571 and the FSC Code is 7010. Solicitations and amendments will
only be available via the World Wide Web at
http://www.nswc.navy.mil/supply. No hard copies will be provided. The
