RANGE BURNER CONTROL SYSTEM TESTS The Consumer Product Safety
Commission intends to issue a firm-fixed price simplified acquisition
procurement to conduct tests to characterize the operation of a
household gas range burner control system that is designed to reduce
its heat output to prevent ignition of cooking materials. The
Contractor must equip a household-type natural gas range with a closed
loop burner control system (the Contractor must provide the gas range
and the burner control system), which senses pan temperature and
controls the burner heat output to reduce the likelihood of igniting
cooking materials. Although experimental in nature, the gas range
burner control system must represent a concept that could later be
adapted for manufacturing. The control system also must have minimal
impact on normal cooking. The Contractor must conduct tests on the
experimental control system to demonstrate its effectiveness. As part
of the evaluation, the Contractor must conduct a limited cost analysis
of a gas range control system, indicating key elements in minimizing
costs to improve affordability of the system for implementation in all
gas household cooking ranges. Request for Quotation (RFQ) No.
CPSC-R-99-5197 will be released on or about August 12, 1999 with
quotations due on or about August 26, 1999. All responsible sources may
request a copy of the RFQ by fax at (30l) 504-0628 and submit a written
quotation, which shall be considered by the agency. No telephone
requests for copies of the RFQ will be accepted. Competitive Simplified
Acquisition Procedures will be utilized in accordance with FAR Part 13.
The final award(s) decision may be based upon a combination of
demonstrated ability to perform the work, demonstrated ability to
provide high quality work products, quoted price, past performance in
similar and related work, and other evaluation factors as specified in
the RFQ. The offerors will need to demonstrate experience in
household-type natural gas range testing. The offerors will also need to
demonstrate that they have adequate staff to complete the testing
within the specified time frame. The anticipated award date is on or
about September 16, 1999. The contract period of performance will be
approximately six months. Posted 07/28/99 (W-SN359891). (0209) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0012 19990730\B-0001.SOL)
