COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF AUGUST 3,1999 PSA#2401Commander, Naval Air Systems Command (Code 2.2), 47123 Buse Road, Bldg
2272, Patuxent River, MD 20670-1547 A -- JSF F120 ALTERNATE ENGINE PRE-E&MD MODIFICATION (PHASE III) SOL
20159-99 POC Sheila McGlynn, and Patty Gibson, (703)601-3920,
extensions 6520, and 6584 E-MAIL: mcglynnsa@jast.mil,
mcglynnsa@jast.mil. A contract modification to the Joint Strike Fighter
(JSF) F-120 Engine Program Contract N00019-96-C-0176 was awarded to
General Electric Aircraft Engines in Cincinnati, Ohio, to add Phase III
requirements for pre-E&MD, including designing, procuring, fabricating,
assembling, and conducting engine risk reduction activities; conducting
component subsystem and engine/engine system testing; and procuring
hardware and tooling necessary to meet schedule requirements. The
contract modification was awarded on a Cost Plus Award Fee basis, and
includes a firm requirement and two mutually exclusive options. During
the Phase III firm requirement, GEAE will initially support two JSF
Weapon System Contractors (WSC's), Boeing and Lockheed-Martin. In the
event of option exercise, GEAE would then be required to continue, and
complete the pre-E&MD phase of the program, supporting only the
successful WSC E&MD contractor. The JSF F120 Turbofan Engine Program
with GEAE, Cincinnati, Ohio, evolved from a determination that dual
engine sources during JSF production will benefit the Air Force and
Navy from both a force structure and a cost perspective. The JSF
Program Office intends to develop and qualify the GEAE F120 Turbofan
Engine for the JSF weapon system by FY2011, with a Lot 7 production
availability. This objective is being implemented through a four-phase
F120 Turbofan engine development program: Phase I -- Preliminary
Design; Phase II -- Core Development; Phase III -- Pre-E&MD; and Phase
IV -- E&MD. This work will enable the Government to enter E&MD for the
F-120 engine at a much lower risk as a result of the efforts procured
under this contract modification. The F-120 engine will ultimately be
used as an alternative to the F-119 engine produced by Pratt and
Whitney. Posted 07/30/99 (W-SN361416). (0211) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0005 19990803\A-0005.SOL)
