The North Cascades National Park Service Complex, Lake Chelan National Recreation Area, Stehekin District, Stehekin, Washington will issue a solicitation for a forest thinning project on approximately 47 acres of Douglas-fir/Ponderosa pine forest. The solicitation will have three separate bid items to include, (1)selective tree cutting, felling, removal of limbs and tops; (2) Helicopter removal of logs to a temporary landing; and (3) Hauling from the landing to a primary deck site in Stehekin District. This forest thinning project is needed to reduce fire fuel hazard and restore forest stand structure in strategic areas of the Stehekin Valley. The wood that results from this thinning operation will be made available as firewood for sale to local residents. Contractors shall have no entitlement under this contract to the trees removed from the treatment site. Quoters may bid on one or more bid items. Award will be made to one or more quoters based on price and other factors considered which results in best value to the government. The Standard Industrial Code is 0851 -- Forestry Services. Size standard is $5.0 Million. Stehekin is a remote wilderness community located 50 miles uplake of Chelan, Washington and may be reached by boat, seaplane, or hiking only. Barge service on Lake Chelan is available on a limited basis. This solicitation will be issued as a 100% Small Business, Labor Surplus Area Set-Aside action.
