The University of California, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), seeks sources for design, fabrication and demonstration of NIF Facility Fiducial Timing hardware. The National Ignition Facility being constructed at LLNL requires a Fiducial time reference source and distribution components. The reference source will function as the time reference marker for all time critical diagnostic systems required in the NIF complex. The system will generate and distribute picosecond, time stable, optical pulses to precision, high-speed, data recorders spread throughout the NIF complex. Concepts using amplification of a seed pulse or precise, synchronized, regeneration of time stable pulses will be considered. A custom design that will use modified standard optical components is desired. Components will include (but not be limited to) optical amplifier(s), electro-optical shutter(s), fiber optic switche(s), fiber optical splitters and high speed detectors. Fiber will include PZ, PM, SM, and MM. Expressions of interest from prospective vendors are invited. Key specifications include: Timing jitter/stability, <5ps; jitter desired, <20 picoseconds RMS required; Pulse width ~100 ps; Pulse repetition rate, 960 Hz; Pulse energy up to 25 micro Joules; Outputs, up to 6 MM fibers. Some custom control and monitor interfaces are required. Optical wavelengths of interest are in the region of 1053 nm and 527nm although other wavelengths in the 1 and .5 micron may be considered for regeneration systems.
