The Government intends to purchase on a sole source basis the following item manufactured by Visicom: (1) VME Interface BDS 530-2005-001 VMEBUS MILSTD1397E for a quantity of 10 each. This requirement will provide the hardware necessary to integrate NTDS interfacing required for the Advanced Multi-configuration Environment Simulator (AMES) which provides the sensor and environment data simulations in support of USW SQQ-89 software development, test, and evaluation. These parts are for inventory held at NSWCDD for expedient replacement of failed parts that may occur at any of the AMES sites, as well as for several new AMES units planned for build and installation in FY 99. This unique hardware is a necessary component of the system. There are 32 AMES hardware suites presently being used at 8 shore sites. The 4001 Antares board is currently the board used for NTDS interfaces in all of these suites. Legacy applications are in place and new interface software is being developed for this environment utilizing the 4001 Antares board in the design & development which has involved a major investment in resources. Hence, complete system compatibility and interoperability is absolutely necessary to protect this major investment and perform this role within the ASW/USW community. Any other NTDS alternative would require a complete redesign of the AMES system. To ensure this hardware/software compatibility and demonstrated reliability, there can be no substitutes for items on ref (b), including the Antares 4001 NTDS boards. This requirement shall be processed under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures.
