Code 200 Bid Desk, Bremerton, WA 98314-0051 39 -- CAPISTAN, HYDRAULIC SOL N00406-99-S-5239 DUE 082099 POC M.
Renville, (360) 476-7772 WEB: FISC Puget Sound,
http://www.puget.fisc.navy.mil. E-MAIL: Contract Specialist,
maureen_renville@puget.fisc.navy.mil. Sources sought announcement. The
government is seeking sources for Hydraulic Capstans, (Type CYP-60)
and capstan Drive Modules (Type DM1-CYP-60) for the CYP-60 hydraulic
capstan (single speed version). Quantity 2 each. (A) Specifications for
the hydraulic capstan follow: (1) Requires a drop-in, boltdown type
foundation plate which is sized to fit into the existing capstan
locations (one is forward and one is aft) with little modifications to
the ships foundational structure. (2) Heavy-duty spur type main
reduction in a totally enclosed, oil-bath lubricated, gear housing. The
input pinion shaft is to be idenpendently supported by heavy-duty
roller bearings. (3) Requires an 18 in diameter capstan barrel, made
from fabricated-steel with a smooth finish. The capstan barrel is
independently supported by heavy-duty marine type bronze bushings,
lubricated via easily accessible grease fittings on the upper part of
the gearbox housing. (4) Finish to be standard (sandblast, inorganic
zinc and marine epoxy topcoat (gray)). (5) Approximate single speed
performance rating to be minimum 10,000 lbs. Line pull @ 60 feet per
minute. (6) Must be able to compensate for Spectra or Plasma brand
working lines (a soft type line), which is high strength line with a
low stretch factor. Capstan must be able to compensate for the line's
low co-efficient of friction and have the ability to endure extremely
hi-shock loads and very high strength. (7) Height of the capstan barrel
to be between 28 and 42 inches, (depending upon input). (B)
Specifications for the capstan drive modules (Type DM1-CYP-60) follow:
(1) Have a single speed vane type hydraulic motor with high starting
torque characteristics. Displacement to suit the available hydraulics
(2) A spring set, hydraulic pressure release Automatic parking brake,
rated to hold a minimum of 200% of the rated line pull. Sized to suit
available hydraulics and required gear ratio. (3) Planetary types two
or three stage gear reducer, lubricated via the motor case drain.
De-rated for class ofservice. A male spline output shaft to fit with
the above capstan. (4) Cost to include engineering services need to
specify the drive modules for various hydraulic systems. (C) Drawings
and technical manuals including detailed parts lists and system
breakdowns are required. Firms having demonstrated experience and
expertise in this area should submit a statement of capabilities,
including, at a minimum, previous experience, description of facilities
and personnel qualifications. Questions should be submitted via
facsimile at (360) 476-6413 or e-mail to
maureen_renville@puget.fisc.navy.mil to be received by 20 August 1999.
All interested parties are requested to submit written response no
later than 31 August 1999 to Fleet & Industrial Supply Center Puget
Sound, 467 W Street, Bremerton WA 98314-5120 ATTN: M. Renville, Code

a Request For Proposal (RFP), nor is it an Invitation For Bid (IFB)
and is not to be constructed as a commitment by the government to
ultimately issue an RFP, RFQ, or contract. The government will not
cover any costs for preparation of information in response to this
