Medical Logistics Command has a requirement for high volume clinical
analyzer systems to screen urine samples for drugs of abuse. The
analyzer systems will be used in Government drug screening laboratory
facilities. The analyzer systems shall be capable of randomly
performing at least 8 tests (drug classes and if necessary adulterant
categories of pH, nitrites, creatinine) selected by the operator or
host computer. Two analyzers or modular components together shall be
capable of testing at least 4,200 samples in a 16 hour workday. This
workload must be sustained for at least 5 days a week for a minimum of
at least 7 years. The analyzers or systems shall require no more than
1-2 technicians per shift to achieve the required throughput and small
enough in size to permit installation of two analyzers or systems in a
work area measuring 25 feet x 12 feet and permit adequate room for
sample storage, preparation, and data handling. The systems shall be
configurable for the use of immunoassay reagents available from at
least 2 independent commercial manufacturers. The analyzers or systems
shall be a commercial product, sold and serviced in the United States
and shall be FDA compliant. Failure of any individual component of the
system shall not cause a reduction of throughput in excess of 50% of
the system's total capacity at anytime. The systems shall be readily
adapted to communicate with laboratory information management systems.
