Central Region Minerals Team, Denver, Colorado, has a requirement for
a Niton XL 722 Portable X-Ray Fluorescense (XRF) Spectrum Analyzer.
This instrument must meet the following specifications: A: Principal of
Operation: X-ray fluorescence analysis of bulk samples. Simultaneous
analysis and display of a minimum of 18 elements. Automatic correction
for x-ray interferences, matrix bias, and age of source. User
controlled analysis time. B. Radiation Sources: Minimum of 106Cd
(half-life 463 days) and 241Am (half-life 433 years) with capability of
adding a third source. Sources are to be contained within the
instrument and readily user selectable. C. Detectors:
Thermo-electrically cooled Si PIN-diode and CdZnTe. Protected by a
readily replaceable mylar window (at least 6 replacements included). D:
Analysis Area: Minimum of 1 cm x 2 cm. E. Microprocessors: 68HC16, two
DSPs. 20,000 internal channel multi-channel analyzer (display at least
1024 channels). F. Memory: Capable of storing at least 1000 spectra
with associated analyses and sample descriptions. G. Auto-calibration:
Self-calibration prior to testing. No interference from calibration
material during analysis. H. Elements to be analyzed and displayed: A
minimum of 18 elements, selectable from the following list: Antimony,
arsenic, barium, bismuth, cadmium, chromium, cobalt, copper, gold,
indium, iodine, iron, lead, manganese, mercury, molybdenum, nickel,
palladium, rubidium, selenium, silver, strontium, thallium, thorium,
tin, titanium, uranium, zinc, zirconium. I. Performance: 300 eV or
better at Mn. Spectrum range from 2 to 90 KeV or better. Results for a
minimum of 18 elements with 95% confidence levels. Detection limits of
100 ppm or less for all elements. J. Output: All data must be
downloadable to a PC (cables and software (Windows 95 or 98 compatible.
