CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT CONFERENCE ON IMPROVING PRODUCTIVITY THROUGH APPLICATIONS OF CONDITION MONITORING The 54th meeting of the Society for Machinery Failure Prevention Technology (MFPT) will be held on May 1-4, 2000 at the Sheraton Oceanfront Hotel, 36th & Atlantic Avenue, Virginia Beach, Virginia; tel: (757)425-9000. Among the sponsors are the Office of Naval Research, the U.S. Army Research Laboratory, the Naval Surface Warfare Center, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. In the planning of MFPT 54, the Program Committee will continue to promote the Society's policy of cooperation with organizations that have related technical interests. Dr. Howard A. Gaberson, NAVFAC Engineering Service Center is Technical Program Chairman. Henry C. Pusey, Executive Director of the Society is Conference Manager. The 2000 Theme reflects the need to minimize machinery and structural failures through efficient use of the latest diagnostic and prognostic technologies. The applications of condition monitoring provide the means to meet this need. The technical sessions at MFPT 54 will be developed by the Technical Program Committee based upon the abstracts submitted. Papers which relate to the THEME of the meeting are especially solicited, but abstracts may be submitted in any area that contributes to the prevention of machinery or structural failures. Paper topics include, but are not limited to, the following: Condition Based Maintenance; Condition Monitoring Techniques; Failure Analysis of Machinery and Structures; Prognosis Techniques; Residual Life Assessment; Reliability-Centered Maintenance: Fault Detection; Oil/Wear Particle Analysis; Infrared Thermography; Advances in Diagnostics; Applications of Sensor Technology and Industrial Case Histories. Technical exhibits are an integral part of the meeting. The number of exhibits is limited and will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Ample time will be scheduled for participants to visit the exhibits. As long as time is available exhibitors may schedule 10 minute presentations in a New Products and Services Session. Abstracts deadline is September 13, 1999. The Technical Program will be distributed by early February 2000, together with complete hotel and registration information.
