A -- 68 -- CURRENT GOOD MANUFACTURING PROCESS SYNTHESIS OF TRANS SODIUM CROCETINATE FOR ANIMAL TESTING POC Wade Wargo (703)696-2574/Contracting Officer, Genesta Belton, (703)696-4511 The Office of Naval Research intends to negotiate on a sole source basis a firm-fixed price purchase order with Torcan Chemical, LTD for the manufacturing of sterile, pyrogen-free Trans Sodium Crocetinate (TSC) under U.S. Food and Drug Administration cGMP conditions. TSC is a carotenoid with the chemical formula C20H22O4Na2. The contractor must synthesize at least 100 mg of pure TSC free of contamination with other enantiomers, bacteria, and pyrogens, and aliquoted in sterile, pyrogen-free glass vials with Teflon liners containing exactly 5 mg of TSC. The structure and purity of the TSC shall be documented by nuclear magnetic resonance (hydrogen and carbon), high pressure liquid chromatography and thin layer chromatography analysis.
