The US Army Communications Command is holding a Government/Industry conference to discuss the future of the military standard family Environmental Control Units (ECU's). The conference is scheduled for August 26, 1999 at Fort Belvoir, VA, in the Conference Room of Building 318, 10808 Gridley Road, CECOM RDE Center, Ft. Belvoir, VA. Registration and refreshments will begin at 0800 hours with the formal program starting at 0900 and concluding in mid-afternoon. For further information or to confirm your intention to attend, notify Mr. Narinder Gulati by return E-mail: Narinder_K_Gulati@belvoir.army.mil or by calling 703-704-2017. Army ECUs are packaged-unitary systems and are deployed worldwide to provide environmental control capability for Army vehicles, shelters, and temporary facilities. The current family of ECU's operates on the R-22 vapor compression cycle for cooling with internal resistive strip heating. There are approximately 20,000 Army ECU's currently fielded, ranging to 5 tons in capacity. The Army plans to replace its current family of ECU's with an improved ECU that will reflect 0 ozone-depleting potential. A three (3) year research and development contract is expected, followed by production contracts. Production quantities may be issued as options to the development contract. New operational and support concept includes contractor-managed maintenance and repair over the equipment's life. Industry representatives are invited to make presentations and/or participate in focus group discussions that will address Army air conditioning and heating requirements, refrigerant alternatives, commercial sector manufacturing capabilities, operational support strategies, and methods for improving overall life cycle cost effectiveness. Note: The Army Industry Conference was advertised in the KOLDFAX June 1999 issue. Information for travel arrangements and lodging is in the aforementioned magazine.
