COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF AUGUST 16,1999 PSA#2410S -- - INTENT TO NEGOTIAGE A SOLE SOURCE CONTRACT WITH THE COLLEGE OF
MARIN. Notice of intent to negotiate a sole source contract with the
College of Marin for the Northwest Fisheries Science Center (NWFSC).
Purpose of contract is to evaluate the extinction risk of populations
of seven marine fish species in the Puget Sound. Species are the
Pacific herring, Pacific cod, Pacific hake, walleye pollock, brown
rockfish, copper rockfish, and quillback rockfish. NMFS specifically
requires the following information: (1) biological or other relevant
data that may help identify distinct population segments of any of the
species, (2) range, distribution, and size of these species'
populations in Puget Sound and coastal waters of Washington and B.C.
(3) current or planned activities and their possible impact on this
species, and (4) efforts being made to protect these species in
Washington and BC. Proposed contractor has professionals with extensive
experience and nationally known status in the field of population
dynamics of WEst Coast marine fish species. Experience includes
professionals who have served on the Groundfish Management Team of the
Pacific Fisheries Management Council (PFMC), authored 50 publications
in the subject of populations status and the biology of marine fishes,
and specialized in population dynamics and biology of rockfish. Team
includes professionals who have experience in diverse fields including
marine fish physiology, genetics, and oceanography. Sources with
