B. Hudson, phudson@mail.arc.nasa.gov. NASA Ames Research plans to issue
a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for a complete Compound Microscope
System. This compound microscope system is a modified standard bench
top microscope with a 240 degree rotating X/Y stage and objective
magnifications/numerical apertures of 10X/0.30, 20X/0.50, 40X/0.75,
50X/0.9 and 100X/1.30. The microscope is configured for brightfield,
darkfield, phase contrast, DIC-Nomarski, polarization and
epi-fluorescence applications. It includes a stage micrometer and
eyepiece reticle for length and particle size measurements. The
microscope allows for both 35mm SLR photography and color video
microscopy without having to exchange camera systems while operating in
the Life Science Glovebox (LSG). This compound microscope system must
be identical in physical and performance characteristics to a
flight-qualified compound microscope developed for Space Station
applications. Also, it must interface with the host command and data
systems for fluorescence applications utilizing both mercury and xenon
arc sources. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified
Acquisition Procedure (SAP). NASA/ARC intends to purchase the item
from Carl Zeiss, Inc. One Zeiss Drive, Thornwood, NY 10594, under the
authority of FAR 13.106-1(b)(1). This ground version of a flight
compound microscope system must be identical in fit, form and function
to the flight system. The Government intends to acquire a commercial
item using FAR Part 12. Interested firms have 15 days from the
publication of this synopsis to submit in writing to the identified
point of contact, their qualifications/capabilities. Such
qualifications/capabilities will be used solely for the purpose of
determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive
basis. Responses received after the 15 days or without the required
information will be considered nonresponsive to the synopsis and will
not be considered. A determination by the Government to not compete
this proposed effort on a full and open competitive basis, based upon
responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the
Government. Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this
notice. All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be
considered by the agency. An ombudsman has been appointed. See Internet
