S. Naval Academy has a requirement for a Portable Steam Plant and Steam
Turbine. These units shall be Educational units, not for building
heating. They shall work together as one unit. The unit shall have
these experimental capabilities: measure steam quality, air/fuel
percentage and excess air calculation,complete boiler efficiency
analysis, determination of overall heat transfer coefficient in a
condenser (show effects of air on heat transfer), determining the
specific enthalpy of steam by and energy balance on the dump condenser,
turbine efficiency as a function of RPM, turbine torque and RPM and
turbine friction at varying condenser pressures. The unit shall have
these saftey features: Certified boiler construction, CO monitor,
monitor and shut down for boiler pressure, high speed turbine shut
down, lock out condition for excessive pressure in the dump condenser
and fail safe on burner ignition. The unit shall also have these
features: Stainless steel steam generator, closed loop cycle with
operator controllable condenser vacuum, super heat capabilities,
impulse turbine output with adjustable torque and RPM, light off to
complete operation in less than ten minutes, convenient to follow user
friendly displays, capable of using different fuels such as
propane,butane or methane, bench top portable, three year warranty and
complete operation and lab manuals. Interested quoters shall provide
