A -- R&D INFRARED SYSTEM MODIFICATION AND IMPLEMENTATION SOL W813LT 9225-7017 DUE 082799 POC Jeanine Worthington, Contract Specialist, 410-278-6514, Jean Craig, Contracting Officer, 410-278-6517 The Army Research Laboratory intends to negotiate with University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center for Statement of Work, Title: InfraRed System Modification and Implementation. This effort supports ARL's MedTeams Program, which is a Congressionally funded initiative focused on reducing human error in Emergency Medicine. As a key part of this program, ARL initiated a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRDA) to develop a unique Infra-Red Communications System for installation into MedTeams participating hospitals in order to evaluate the impact of medical staff communications concepts on patient care. Initial prototype system installation was undertaken at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center which was completed in January 1999. Personnel at the Shock Trauma Center completed a cursory evaluation of the system and have discovered technical shortcomings that prevent the IR communications system from being effectively utilized by Trauma Care personnel. Recommended technical corrections have been identified and the pending requirement covers the cost of installing the IR system technical modifications within the trauma facility and implementing the system under controlled conditions. Because of the unique circumstances described, negotiations are planned solely with University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Information received will be considered only for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. Capabilities statement referencing W813LT 9225-7017 must be faxed to Jeanine Worthington, 410-278-6522. No telephone requests will be honored. Posted 08/17/99 (W-SN368481). (0229)
