SCANNER DATA FOR USE IN CONSUMER PRICE INDEX SOL RFI T.N. 99-31 POC

McMeekin, Contracting Officer The Bureau of Labor Statistics is
conducting a study to evaluate price and quantity data derived from
store scanner data for use in the Consumer Price Index (CPI). The
commodity under study is breakfast cereal. Scanner data by week must be
provided for at least 34 of the 38 geographic areas that the CPI uses
to partition the urban United States. Delivery must be within two weeks
of the end of the data collection period. Data must be based on a
census or probability-based stratified random sample of the total U.S.
chain and independent supermarket, mass merchandiser and drug store
universe. Stratification variables should include type of store and
geography. At least 2,600 stores must be included in the sample and
stores must cover 80 percent of total sales in stores with sales of $2
million or more. The breakfast cereal data required is as follows: 1.
Northeast Census Region for calendar 1999 by week provided by January
31, 2000. 2. Northeast Census Region for calendar year 2000 by week on
a flow basis. 3. National data for January through June 2000 by August
31, 2000. Vendors interested in performing this project must submit a
Statement of Qualifications which identifies: The vendor's experience
in the performance of studies the same as or similar to the one to be
performed. Responses must cite the number of this study (RFI T.N.
99-31), and must state whether the respondent is a large or a small
business concern. The SIC code is 8732 and the Small Business size
standard is $5 million. Respondents that are small business concerns
must also state whether they are small disadvantaged business and/or
small women-owned businesses. The closing date for the receipt of
responses is August 31, 1999. Send your response (original and two
