Johnson_Jesse@ncsc.navy.mil. The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren
Division, Coastal Systems Station, Panama City, Florida intends to
issue a purchase order to Amphenol Aerospace for the procurement of
connectors for the MK-16 Underwater Breathing Apparatus (UBA). The
MK-16 Mod 0 Underwater Breathing Apparatus is a life support system
used by Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) divers and Naval Special
Warfare divers in the proximity of underwater magnetic influence
ordnance. The apparatus uses water-blocked cables to transmit signals
to display devices that inform the diver of UBA status. Only those
articles that have been successfully tested are qualified. Procedures
are specified under SS521-AA-MAN-010 U.S. Navy Diving and Manned
Hyperbaric Certification Manual. The objective of this process is to
verify that the life support system provides acceptable levels of diver
safety throughout the specified operating range when approved operating
and maintenance procedures are followed. The intent of the process is
to provide maximum reasonable assurance that an accident will not occur
and establishes maximum reasonable assurance that the diver may be
recovered without injury if there is an accident. Amphenol Aerospace is
the only company that has been qualified by cognizant authority to
provide connectors for the MK-16 Mod 0 Water Blocked Cables. See Note
