083099 POC Margie N. Goslow (650)329-4175 E-MAIL: The following
individual should be contacted if additional, mgoslow@usgs.gov. Laser
Difraction particle-size analyzer. Manufacturer: Coulter Corp. Model:
LS230 or equal The USGS INEEL project office has a requirement for a
high-resolution particle-size analyzer to determine grain-size
distributions of loosely consolidated sedimentary materials recovered
from boreholes drilled at the INEEL. Sedimentary materials are
comprised of clay-sized through gravel-sized components. Clays and
Clay-sized particles are interspersed in a coarser grained matrix
consisting of silt, sand and fine gravel-sized particles. High
resolution analyses of these material are required to determine the
material's hydrologic properties. Presision measurements are needed to
resolve the distribuiton of different size fractions in the range of
0.04 microns through 2000 microns. Technology: Laser Diffraction Range:
0.04 micron to 2000 micron (single scan analysis over full range)
Resolution: 100 channels or better Repeatability: better than 1% Sample
Volume Requirements: 150 Ml nominal Calibration: Operator capable with
traceable transfer standards Measurement Time: less than 2 minutes per
sample Power Supply: 110/120 VAC Software Support: PC NT 4.0 or Windows
95/98 compatible (Y2K compatible); statistical profiling and graphical
output capable On-site Training and Installation: YES Quantity 1 EA.
