Executive Blvd, EPS/Room 638, Bethesda, MD 20892-7227 B -- COLLECTION OF TISSUE & BLOOD SAMPLES SOL RFQ-NCI-90183-NR DUE
090799 POC Marsha Gorham, Purchasing Agent & Todd Cole, Contracting
Officer The National Cancer Institute(NCI), Division of Cancer
Epidemiology and Genetics (DCEG), Environmental Epidemiology Branch
(EEB) plans to procure the services of the Department of Urology,
University of California at San Francisco (UCSF), 400 Parnassus Avenue,
A610, San Francisco, CA 94143 to collect tissue samples from Asian
Americans and patients undergoing cystoprostatectomy. NCI is conducting
a methodologic study to correlate tissue levels of hormones with serum
levels in order to clarify whether circulating levels of hormones
reflect hormonal status in the prostate gland. In addition, racial
variation in the correlations will be evaluated by the National Cancer
Institute. The purpose of this requirement is for the collection of
prostatic tissue and blood. Of special interest is the collection of
tissue samples from Asian Americans and from patients undergoing
cystoprostatectomy. A total of 100 men undergoing prostatectomies shall
be recruited into the study for tissue and fasting blood collection.
Two 20-mg pieces of frozen tissue should be collected from each of the
three sites in the prostate gland, including the transitional,
central, and peripheral zones. In total, 6 pieces of tissue and 30ml of
fasting blood shall be collected from each of the 100 study subjects
for a total of 600 tissue samples and 100, 30 ml blood samples. The
above collection must be completed within twelve months in order for
NCI to maintain the overarching study's schedule. The University of
California at San Francisco can readily perform the specimen collection
services noted above. The University of California at San Francisco has
a sufficient number of Asian-Americans available to participate in the
study. In addition, the clinical center at the University has
extensive experience and expertise in cystoprstatectomy, a complex and
relatively rare procedure. UCSF is the only source known to the NCI
Research that has this combination of expertise in procedures and a
significant Asian-American population. This is not a request for
competitive quotation. However, if any interested party believes it can
perform the above requirement, it may submit a statement of
capabilities. The statement of capabilities and any other information
furnished must be in writing and must contain material in sufficient
detail to allow NCI to determine if the party can perform this
requirement. Capability statements must be received in the contracting
office by 3:00 p.m. EST, on September 7, 1998. If you have any
questions, please contact Marsha Gorham, Purchasing Agent on (301)
402-4509. A determination by the Government not to compete this
proposed requirement based upon responses to this notice is solely
within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be
considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a
competitive procurement. Posted 08/20/99 (W-SN370624). (0232) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0009 19990824\B-0001.SOL)
