Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps intends to issue a Purchase Order with Bell and Howell ProQuest Information and Learning, for ProQuest General Periodical Database subscription libraries, in both full text and image. The minimum needs for the sixteen U.S. Marine Corps Command Libraries, CONUS wide is: ProQuest Periodical Abstracts Research II(a general reference and academic database that contains over 1900 journals, which are indexed and abstracted, all articles are copyright cleared and covers current year plus back-up to 1995; ProQuest Direct Military data contains 78 military journals (72 in full text), journals are current within one week; and the National Newspapers, in full text (including Wall Street Journal). The database subscription service shall commence on October 1, 1999 for one-year. ProQuest is the only known source that can provide comprehensive coverage of general reference, scholarly and military journals, along with full text newspapers. No special hardware will be required because ProQuest Direct allows the user to access databases via the Internet. It further allows printing, displaying, downloading, marking and e-mailing of articles. Additionally, the journals are on-line by 10:00 a.m., the same day.
