A -- METHOD FOR MEASURING THE AMOUNT OF DNA FOUND IN SOIL SAMPLES SOL IBD:99-67 POC Dr. John Mott, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Licensing Executive, [505-665-0883], fax [505-665-6127], or email jmott@lanl.gov E-MAIL: jmott@lanl.gov, jmott@lanl.gov. The University of California, which operates Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) under contract to the U.S. Department of Energy, solicits Letters of Interest from companies interested in sponsoring into a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) to develop and commercialize a METHOD FOR MEASURING THE AMOUNT OF DNA FOUND IN SOIL SAMPLES ("Technology"). The Technology is a reliable and sensitive assay for quantifying the amount of DNA in soil, even in the presence of humic materials that normally interfere with such a measurement. The Technology is complementary to standard techniques for extracting and purifying DNA. We have developed a prototype, portable instrument that uses the Technology and that has been tested both in the laboratory and in the field. In its current design, the instrument directs the user in sample preparation; our goal is to automate sample handling steps and to incorporate that automation into the instrument. The Technology is embodied in a provisional patent application submitted to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Any company interested in this opportunity must respond with a Letter of Interest that provides a description of the company's (1) business and business goals; (2) managing officers and board of directors; (3) technical staff and resources; (4) financial resources; (5) manufacturing and marketing capabilities; and (6) motivation for pursuing this opportunity. Respondents are encouraged to provide ancillary documentation such as annual reports, corporate resumes, commitment letters from financial partners, and technical publications. The Letter of Interest must provide this information or the respondent will not be considered as a qualified respondent. Please send Letters of Interest to the attention of John B. Mott, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Industrial Business Development Program Office, Mail Stop C334, Los Alamos, New Mexico, 87545. For consideration, companies must respond as required and stated above within 30 days from the date that this advertisement first appears in the Commerce Business Daily. For questions or clarifications contact Dr. Mott by phone [505-665-0883], fax [505-665-6127], or email [jmott@lanl.gov]. Posted 08/25/99 (W-SN372495). (0237)
