66 -- OLYMPUS LASER MICROSCOPE SOL 69D-400-99 DUE 090899 POC Michael Cunningham, Contracting Officer, 414-902-5407 The Great Lakes Acquisition Center intends to negotiate a sole source contract with Optical Analysis Corporation of Nashua NH for the purchase of an Olympus Fluoview Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope for the Research Service at the Hines IL VA Hospital. Optical Analysis is the only authorized dealer for this Olympus microscope for Hines IL. This particular make and model of microscope is required for the following reasons. It will be used for research concerning recovery from spinal cord injury. It will allow high resolution of spinal cord injury sites to determine if the proposed treatments result in actual regrowth of injured axons across the lesion site, and what specific cell types are involved in the reparative process. Only this make and model of microscope provides the combination of imaging and quantitation needed for this research. Included in the features unique to this microscope are: Fluoview multi-image format is easily exportable to other software programs; Field Number of 20 scan area; flexible laser selection including option of dual line krypton with 647 nm red line which gives superior separation; 12 Bit PMT's and data collection; 12-bit image quantitation; UIS Optics for superior resolution; compatibility with other Olympus equipment already being used for this research.
