Lebo, Contracting Officer, 301-619-2036 DOD Specified Appropriation Program-Diagnostic and Surgical Breast Imaging Announcement for 1999 Program The Fiscal Year (FY) 1999 Defense Appropriations Act provides funds for specified biomedical research in the area of Diagnostic and Surgical Breast Imaging (DSBI). These funds are administered by the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC) through the Specified Appropriations Program of the Office of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP). The amount available to fund DSBI proposals is 1.7 million dollars. Detailed information is available at the CDMRP website, http://cdmrp.army.mil. The goal of the Specified Appropriations Program is to support peer-reviewed, innovative research in health related areas specifically designated by Congress. With this Program Announcement, the USAMRMC is reopening competition for Diagnostic and Surgical Breast Imaging funds and challenging the scientific and medical communities to design innovative research that will addresssignificant issues related to Diagnostic and Surgical Breast Imaging. The programmatic strategy for the FY 99 program is to solicit research proposals across all appropriate disciplines that have the potential to effect advances in the area of Diagnostic and Surgical Breast Imaging. Significant execution milestones for this year's program are tentatively set as follows: Release of the Program Announcement -- 23 August 1999; Proposal Receipt -- 27 October 1999; Peer Review -- November/December 1999; Programmatic Review -- January 2000; Notification of Award(s) -- beginning in February 2000; Award Negotiations Completed by September 30, 2000.
