66 -- 2K X 2K MEGASCAN GRADE 2 SOL NCI-RFQ-90212-NR DUE 091319 POC Marsha Gorham, Purchasing Agent & Todd Cole, Contracting Officer The National Cancer Institute, Division of Clinical Sciences, Laboratory of Biochemistry plans on procuring two 2k x 2k CCD cameras to be included on two FEI Tecnai 30 microscopes which were recently purchased from FEI Company, 7310 Grove Road, Frederick,MD 21704. NCI has established an electron microscopy facility that will be used for 1) structural determination of membrane proteins and membrane protein complexes at atomic resolution and 2) structural determination of macromolecular assemblies from single particle imaging studies. The cornerstone of the facility is a state-of-the-art Tecnai 30 electron microscope that was purchased under a previous competitive procurement. The Laboratory of Biochemistry now has a requirement to include a Gatan 794 Megascan camera/capturer ( the camera shall possess <400kV/YAG/B/2k) for the microscope's wide angle camera port and for below the projection chamber either on axis or off-axis. The CCD system shall be integrated internally into the Tecnai 30 Twin microscopes to create a seamless integration of controls for microscope operation and CCD image acquisition. Thus, only one graphical user interface, computer monitor, and keyboard shall be utilized for both the CCD camera and the microscopes to reduce error and increase efficiency in more complex analyses. In addition, the camera shall be factory installed to insure that all existing warranties remain intact and undisputed on the Tecnai 30 electron microscope. FEI Company is the only source known to the NCI researcher that can meet the above requirement, especially with regard to maintaining a seamless integration with the Tecnai 30 and maintaining the warranties on the microscope. If any interested party believes it can meet the above requirement, it may submit a statement of capabilities. The statement of capabilities and any other information furnished must be in writing and must contain material in sufficient detail to allow NCI to determine if the party can perform this requirement. Capability statements must be received in the contracting office by 3:00 p.m. EST, on September 13, 1999. If you have any questions, please contact Marsha Gorham, Purchasing Agent on (301) 402-4509. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed requirement based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. Posted 08/27/99 (W-SN373439). (0239)
