The Office of Law Enforcement Technology Commercialization (OLETC), a program of the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), is initiating procedures to commercialize a unique three-dimensional facial identification technology. The technology is called ILEFIS, or Integrated Law Enforcement Face-Identification System. This technology offers the unique ability to identify a facial image from angled photos and video images. The technology is capable of screening over one million images in a few seconds. This technology has been developed under contract to NIJ at Wheeling Jesuit University over the past two years. A U.S. and International patent have been filed. The primary initial markets for this unique technology are law enforcement, corrections, and industrial security. It has significant domestic and international market potential. This is a preliminary announcement concerning the intent to organize and conduct a commercialization partnership meeting later this year at the OLETC office in Wheeling, WV.
