It is the intent of the National Library of Medicine (NLM) to procure professional services on a sole source basis with ACME Bookbinding Co., P.O. Box 699, Charlestown, MA 02129, to provide a continuation of preservation photocopy services which were begun on March 15, 1999 through March 14, 2000 to increase the additional works required. The additional services will be the following: (1) duplication services -- produce single/double-sided, registered copies with a binding margin from bound and unbound originals and from photocopies; produce black and white, continuous tone (greyscale), and color copies; produce same-size copies of foldouts and oversized accompanying materials up to 31 by 39 inches; (2) binding and labeling -- make book covers from "C" cloth, buckram, or other material specified by NLM; bind duplicate pages using double-fan adhesive binding with PVA or other binding method specified by NLM; construct boxes or other protective enclosures for damaged or brittle original volumes; make pockets for accompanying materials; label volume and box spines using foil stamping or laser-printed paper labels. This project requires an experienced, liability and insured vendor for the value against loss or damage of NLM rare books due to any cause while in the vendor's facility or while in transit from the vendor to NLM. As proof of compliance with this requirement, ACME Bookbinding Co. has furnished NLM with its certificate of insurance. Duplicates produced by ACME Bookbinding Co. has meet all the following standards for permanence and durability: ANSI/NISO Z39.48. -- Permanence of Paper for Printed Library Materials; ASTM D3290. -- Bond and Ledger Paper for Permanent Records; ASTM D3459. -- Copies from Office Copying Machines for Permanent Records. This is not a Request for Quotations (RFQ), nor is an RFQ available, however, all responsible and responsive sources may submit a proposal which will be considered by the NLM.
