This laser is to be placed on a Zeiss 410 LSM confocal microscope. The Institute intends to obtain this scientific equipment by other than full and open competition from Microcosm, Inc., 9140 Guilford Road, Suite O, Columbia, MD 21046. To the best of the Government's knowledge Microcosm is the sole provider for the 40mW Coherent enterprise 413nm laser. Coherent the manufacture of the 413nm laser does not sell directly since they will not warranty the laser once it is installed on the existing 410 con-focal imaging system. The Standard Industrial Classification Code is 3821, and the business size standard is 500. Interested vendors may identify in writing their interest with a capability statement to the Contracting Office prior to the closing date of this notice. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals, however all responses received before the closing date of this announcement will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed acquisition is based upon responses to this notice and is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. It is anticipated that Request for Quotation (RFQ) NIH-NIDDK-99-483 will be available fifteen (15) days after the publication date of this synopsis.
