The U.S. Department of Commerce, National Weather Service (NWS) proposes to negotiate on a sole source basis contract under the authority of 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1) with MAKSCO of Fort Worth, Texas for the inspection and repair of the NOAA Weather Radio (NWR) antenna systems at 20 separate locations. MAKSCO currently maintains all locations and has for the past 10 years. The MAKSCO company has designed and manufactured a mounting assembly that moves the antenna elements one half wave length out from the tower where catastrophic failures have occurred with significant improvement in service area coverage. This change has been implemented and tested in various locations. This test, inspection, and repair effort is keyed to the fall, winter and spring time frame. The antenna systems repair cannot be accomplished during inclement weather. The repair efforts require = an individual to climb high towers. This procurement is being conducted per FAR Part 13, Simplified Acquisition Procedures. This synopsis is issued for information only. No competitive solicitation is planned. No award will be made on the basis of requests in response to this notice. Information submitted in response to this notice will be used solely to determine whether or not use of competitive procedures to fulfill this requirement would be in the Government's best interest and must address qualifications pertinent to this requirement.
