U -- DEVELOPEMENT OF LISTENING SUMMARY TRANSLATION EXAM IN MANDARIN & CANTONESE AND A VERBATIM TRANSLATION EXAM IN WRITTEN CHINESE SOL RFP 739003 DUE 100899 POC Robert J McMahon, contracting Officer (202) 324-2992` The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Foreign Language Program has a requirement for a contractor to develop two (2) Listening Summary Translation Examinations (LSTE), one in Chinese Mandarin and one in Chinese Cantonese, and one Verbatim Translation Examination (VTE) in written Chinese. The LSTE in Mandarin and LSTE in Cantonese will access the ability of individuals to comprehend audio materials in these languages and summarize in English. The format will comprise one machine scorable multiple choice section (mc) and one production section which are based on authentic spoken language and reflect relevant operational tasks encountered by FBI linguists. The VTE in Chinese will access the ability to translate written Chinese into English. The format will comprise one machine scorable mc section and a production section based on authentic written texts relevance to the FBI's needs. The LSTE in Mandarin and Cantonese and VTE in Chinese will become part of the Foreign Language Test Battery used by theFBI in determining the suitability of individuals for employment as Language Specialists, Translators or Contract Linguists. All materials generated during the course of the contract will become the property of the FBI. The FBI contemplates award of a fixed-price task order contract for a base year plus one additional option year. The Standard Industrial Classification Code is 8299.
