POC Cynthia Brown, Purchasing Agent, 301-402-4509, Todd Cole,
Contracting Officer The National Cancer Institute (NCI), Division of
Clinical Sciences (DCS), Medicine Branch (MB) plans on procuring a
colonoscope with high resolution digital signal video processor with an
integrated data system from Fujinon, Inc., 10 Highpoint Drive, Wayne,
New Jersey 07470. The Fluorescence In-Situ Hybridization (FISH) section
of the Medicine Branch focuses on the delineation of chromosomal
aberrations involved in the -e origin of human genetic diseases using
modern cytogenetic methods. Research is particularly aimed at the
identification of genetic events during initiation and progression of
solid tumors using comparative genomic hybridization, interphase
cytogenetics, digital image analysis, and confocal laser scanning
microscopy.A current study involves the examination and biopsy of
tissue from cancer patients during colonoscopy procedures. Careful
examination and visualization of the tissue is critical to a safe and
effective procedure for both the researcher and patient. In performing
the currentstudy, a shorter procedure is also desirable for the safety
of the patient since less medication is required. As a result, the
required colonoscope shall have a high resolution digital signal video
processor with an integrated data system, and it shall be
self-contained with magnifying zoom. The colonoscope shall provide at
least 410,000 pixels or higher resolution and very clear freeze frame
images. The instrument shall have an observation range of 5 to 20 mm.
or greater magnification. Higher resolution and magnification are
essential elements for the work to be performed since less time to
focus and clearly visualize the tissue is needed. Fujinon is the only
source known to the NCI Researcher that can meet the above
requirements, especially with regard to the required resolution and
magnification This is not a request for competitive quotation. However,
if any interested party believes it can meet the above requirement, it
may submit a statement of capabilities. The statement of capabilities
and any otherinformation furnished must be in writing and must contain
material in sufficient detail to allow NCI to determine if the party
can meet the above requirements. Capability statements must be received
in the contracting office by 3:00 p.m. EST, on September 23, 1999. If
you have any questions, please contact Cynthia Brown, Purchasing Agent
on (301) 402-4509. A determination by the Government not to compete
this proposed requirement based upon responses to this notice is solely
within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be
considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a
competitive procurement. Posted 09/03/99 (W-SN376148). (0246) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0271 19990908\66-0004.SOL)
