E-MAIL: See Block 20, catherine.keller@amedd.army.mil. The US Army Medical Research Acquisition Activity (USAMRAA) intends to award a contract on a sole-source basis to Dr. Apurba K. Bhattacharjee, Washington DC, pursuant to FAR 6.302-1. This action is being pursued on a sole-source basis because the Government believes Dr. Bhattacharjee is the only contractor with the expertise to complete these special studies and analysis for the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR). USAMRAA intends to award this requirement under Simplified Acquisition Procedures. The period of performance is for 12 months from the date of award. The contractor shall a) provide quantum mechanical descriptors of the antimalarial and antileishmanial potency of tryptanthrin analogues; b) establish criteria based upon quantum chemical calculations for selecting 8-aminoquinolines potent against multi-drug resistant plasmodium falciparum and determine a set of discriminators for phototoxicity and methemoglobin formation; c) develop criteria based upon molecular stereoelectronic properties and efficacy studies for anitmalarial reversal agents based on the compound LY335979 (Eli Lilly); and d) use QSAR (quantitative structure activity relationships) to design novel antimalarials based on trypthanthin analogues.
