The National Weather Service (NWS) is soliciting quotes from qualified offerors to provide routine and non-routine maintenance for National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Weather Radio (NWR) transmitters and control sites in such a manner that the highest possible system availability, within existing resources, is provided to the user. The contractor shall furnish the necessary personnel, material, equipment, services and facilities. The NWS transmits NWR continuous broadcasts from Spencer Mt., Gason County, NC; Mt. Pisgah, Buncombe County, NC; and Taccoa, Stephens County, GA. NWR broadcasts are transmitted over narrow-band, VHF-FM transmitting equipment (100-1000 watts) on one of seven frequencies, ranging from 162.400 to 162.550 MHZ. NWR broadcasts are tailored to weather information needs of people within the receiving area (approximately 40 miles) and are transmitted 24 hours a day. The period of performance will be from October 1, 1999 through September 30, 2000; there will be four option years with an ending date of September 30,2004.
