The BigDye is used to sequence DNA with the ABI 377 automated sequencer. The Taqman is used to perform ALLELIC Discrimination on the ABI7700 sequencer detector. The Institute intends to obtain this scientific equipment by other than full and open competition from Applied Biosystems, A Division of Perkin Elmer Corporation, 850 Lincoln Drive, Foster City, CA 94404.To the best of the Government's knowledge Applied Biosystem is the sole manufacturer and distributor for the BidDye Terminator Ready Reaction Kits and Taqman Universal Master Master Mix. The Standard Industrial Classification Code is 3821, and the business size standard is 500. Interested vendors may identify in writing their interest with a capability statement to the Contracting Office prior to the closing date of this notice. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals, however all responses received before the closing date of this announcement will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed acquisition is based upon responses to this notice and is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. It is anticipated that Request for Quotation (RFQ) NIH-NIDDK-99-490 will be available fifteen (15) days after the publication date of this synopsis.
