Grahovac, pg2@inel.gov. A -- Bore Spray Diagnostic System. This is an
opportunity to partner in the technology development and licensing of
a Bore Spray Diagnostic System for thermal spray coatings with Lockheed
Martin Idaho Technologies Company (LMITCO), the prime operating
contractor for the Department of Energy at the Idaho National
Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL). LMITCO has developed
a prototype nondestructive evaluation (NDE) system to measure the
thickness and thickness uniformity of thermal spray coatings. The
technology has been developed to measure wear coatings on cylinder
linings of aluminum combustion engine blocks after the cylinders have
been honed. The prototype system includes an NDE sensor head, data
acquisition and analysis software, and associated electronic hardware.
In addition, the system may also be used in many other thermal spray
applications, such as jet engine turbine blades, where coating
thickness and uniformity are critical to product performance, but also
where the thermal spray process is difficult to control. The system
uses inexpensive equipment, is not sensitive to variations in the
microstructure of the coating, does not involve use of radioactive
materials, and is easy to use. As evidenced by their participation in
the collaborative development of the prototype system, U. S. auto
manufacturers are interested in the benefits of this technology. LMITCO
is seeking a written indication of interest from industry partners
interested in funding a collaborative technology development project
and or entering into a license agreement for the purpose of developing
and commercializing this technology. We are filing a patent
application on this technology soon. License terms will include an
up-front licensing fee and a running royalty based on a percentage of
sales. This is not an opportunity to provide goods or services to
LMITCO or the Department of Energy. This Request for Interest (RFI)
will close to response 60 days after publication. Interested parties
should send e-mail to pg2@inel.gov (Paul Grahovac, Account Executive,
Technology Transfer Office, LMITCO). If you do not have e-mail access,
send regular mail to Paul Grahovac, Account Executive, Technology
Transfer Office, LMITCO, P. O. Box 1625, Idaho Falls, ID 83415-3805.
