(AFOSR) intends to solicit and negotiate a contract modification with
the National Academy of Sciences, Washington, DC 20418, to extend the
term of Contract Number F49620-96-C-0001 through 14 Oct 2002 under the
authority of 10 U.S.C. 2304(c)(1) as implemented by FAR 6.302-1. The
contractor will continue support of the NRC-RRAP in cooperation with
Air Force Laboratories and research organizations. The contractor will
conduct a national competition for outstanding scientists and
engineers at the postdoctoral and renowned research levels and award
research opportunities as guest investigators at participating Air
Force Laboratories and research organizations. The objectives of the
prorgram are: (1) to provide postdoctoral scientists and engineers of
unusual promise and ability with opportunities for reseach in the Air
Force Laboratories, (2) to provide world-renowned leading researchers
a sabbatical opportunity to perform reseach on problems largely of
their ownchoice, and (3) to contribute thereby to the overall research
