A -- CHEMICAL ANALYSIS AUTOMATION SOL IBD-PO:99-100 POC Jerry Boak, Technical Staff Member, Los Alamos National Laboratory, (505) 667-0835 or email jmboak@lanl.gov E-MAIL: jmboak@lanl.gov, jmboak@lanl.gov. The University of California, which operates the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) under contract to the Department of Energy (DOE), solicits interest from companies interested in obtaining license rights to commercialize, manufacture and market DOE's Chemical Analysis Automation (CAA) technology, hereinafter referred to as "Technology". The Technology was developed as a flexible approach to full automation of a wide range of routine chemical analyses of environmental contaminants and other analytes for high throughput applications. The CAA Project has developed 1) standards and protocols for interfaces and communications among Standard Laboratory Modules (SLMs) that automate portions of standard analytical methods; 2) a number of SLMs developed to perform sample preparation processes not previously automated; 3) computer control, interface and analysis programs; and 4) a trailer mounted system for the rapid analysis of semi-volatile organic compounds developed to demonstrate the integrated modularapproach. The Technology provides flexible, automated systems for chemical analysis according to procedures acceptable to environmental regulators. The analytical systems designed by the CAA Project implement well defined standards and protocols for the "plug and play" integration of standard laboratory modules that automate analytical procedures, using commercially available instruments wherever possible. A significant suite of hardware and software tools are available for licensing to commercial partners. Expressions of interest are sought from companies interested in: 1) CAA system software; 2) individual module software and hardware for stand-alone applications; 3) individual module software and hardware suitable for integrated CAA applications. The Technology may be licensed through a variety of options, depending on the particular expressions of interest and the relationship sought with the DOE National Laboratories that have developed this technology. Interested organizations must demonstrate prior professional experience in the fields of environmental science and waste technology systems manufacturing, system integration and maintenance. Evidence of related inventions, products, services and/or publications must be provided. Any organization interested in licensing the above mentioned Technology must respond with a statement of intent describing the organization's technical expertise, manufacturing and marketing capabilities, financial resources (e.g., annual report or corporate resume) and commercial motivation. Upon receipt of a licensee applicant statement, LANL may determine whether applicant(s) will be selected for technology transfer negotiations. A business or product commercialization plan may be required prior to negotiation. The statement of intent to enter into technology transfer discussions should be directed to Jerry Boak, Technical Staff Member, Los Alamos National Laboratory, (505) 667-0835 or email jmboak@lanl.gov.
