A -- THERMOELECTRIC GENERATOR DUE 101199 POC Robert Ho, Engineer, (973)724-3925 WEB: US ARMY TACOM-ARDEC Procurement Network, http://procnet.pica.army.mil/cbd/SRCSgt/090919990/090919990.htm. E-MAIL: Robert Ho, robertho@pica.army.mil. Potential sources and production capability information for a miniature thermoelectric generator which can provide electrical energy when exposed to slow heating beyond certain safe limits or when exposed to a fire is sought. The desired unit must provide approximately 5 joules to a storage capacitor in each of the following two scenarios: 1) SLOW. Item to which generator is affixed is exposed to a continually increasing ambient temperature which increases at 50 oF per hour from 165oF. In this case the required energy must be accumulated before ambient temperature exceeds approximately 325 oF. Power generation should not commence until ambient temperature is above 165oF. 2) FAST. Item to which generator is affixed is exposed to a fire. In this case there will be more than one minute for the required energy to be generated and stored. Power generation should not commence until ambient temperature is above 165oF. The generator must fit within a volume nominally 1.5" diameter by 1" deep. Part of this volume will contact a heat sink significant for the fire scenario, but marginal for the slow scenario. Any additional required heat sinks, ablative devices, etc. cannot inflate the volume requirements by a significant amount. Standard operational limits for shipping and storage must be met: 1) Storage temperature between 65 to +165 oF 2) Any humidity (0% to 100%) 3) Pressure between 155 mb and 2030 mb +/- 10 mb 4) Shall function properly after a 5 foot drop test 5) Shall be compatible with all munitions components Generator system design must be reliable; it must provide the required energy when in the scenario environments in 99.9% of trials. The desired storage life is 20 years. Respondents should submit their data within 30 days from the date of this publication to Defense Ammunition Logistics Activity, ATTN: AMSTA-AR-AL, Robert Ho, Picatinny Arsenal, NJ 07806-5000, by email to robertho@pica.army.mil Posted 09/09/99 (D-SN378229).
