http://nais.nasa.gov/EPS/HQ/date.html#NRA-99-OES-05. E-MAIL: Dr. Jake
A. Kaye, Jake.Kaye@hq.nasa.gov. The National Aeronautics and Space
Administration (NASA) intends to solicit research proposals for science
investigations to be initiated for the US component of the
international science team for the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI)
which is to fly aboard the CHEM mission of NASA's Earth Observing
System (EOS) currently scheduled for launch in late 2002. Two
categories of proposals may be submitted under this announcement: US
team leader (TL) or team member (TM). OMI is an ultraviolet-visible
nadir viewing instrument designed to make measurements of distributions
of ozone and other trace constituents in the Earth's atmosphere. It
will be provided to NASA by the Netherlands Agency for Aerospace
Programs. All US activities in support of OMI will be coordinated
through the OMI Science Advisory Board and, in particular, with the OMI
principal investigator. The investigators comprising the US component
of the OMI science team will be responsible for all OMI-related work
carried out in the US, including the development of algorithms,
processing of data, and validation of data from OMI, as well as the
development of combined data products using data from OMI and other
sensors planned for flight aboard EOS CHEM. The US Team Leader will
have the responsibility to coordinate the US members of the OMI Science
Team, and to ensure that algorithms developed by the US Team Members
are coordinated and implemented in an optimal way, and that data
products are produced and archived consistent with appropriate
guidelines for the EOS project. This solicitation is open to all
categories of organizations, foreign and domestic. A copy of this
solicitation will be available over the Internet via the Office of
Earth Science Home Page at http://www.earth.nasa.gov under MTPE
Research Announcements. Paper copies of the NRA will be available to
those who do not have access to the Internet by calling (202) 358-3552
and leaving a voice mail message, including full name and address,
including zip code, and telephone number, including area code. This
announcement will be open for the period from September 29, 1999
through December 9, 1999 and proposals may be submitted at any time
throughout that period. Letters of intent are requested but not
required; such letters should be submitted by October 22, 1999. POC:
