Bi-ventricular Support Unit, and Provide one (1) each Blood Pump Mount
Set, to meet the following minimum technical requirements: 1. Any
system considered shall have current FDA approval for postcardiotomy
ventricular dysfunction. 2. System shall be a pulsatile system. 3. The
system shall be capable of right, left or bi-ventricular support with
a single-drive unit. It shall have dual chamber blood pumps which
operate without vacuum. 3. The system shall include a hardware back-up
to the software algorithm, and a foot pump to support patient
circulation in the event of a mechanical failure. 4. The system shall
be eligible for reimbursement under the Health Care Financing
Administration's (HCFA) guidelines of October 1993, outlining coverage
of ventricular assist devices. The proposed contract action is for
supplies or services for which the Government intends to solicit and
negotiate with only one source, ABIOMED, Inc., under the authority of
