COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF SEPTEMBER 24,1999 PSA#2440US Army ARDEC, AMSTA-AR-PC, Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey 07806-5000 A -- LIGHTWEIGHT GROUND MOUNT DUE 102299 POC Bonnie Holland, Contract

E-MAIL: Bonnie Holland, bholland@pica.army.mil. This is a Market Survey
in support of the U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments
Command(TACOM), Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center
(ARDEC). The M122 Tripod, including Traverse and Elevation
(T&E)attachment is incompatible with the M249 MG with a 200 round
ammunition container attached un- less an adapter is used.
Additionally, the M122 with pintle and T&E weigh more than 18 pounds.
The US Army has identified a need for a lightweight ground mount with
the ability to mount both the M240B 7.62mm medium machinegun and the
M249 5.56mm squad automatic weapon in the machinegun role without the
use of adapters. The U.S. Army ARDEC is seeking information on
innovative concepts for a Light- weight Ground Mount with the following
characteristics: 1) An integrated T&E mechanism with an integral
elevation and azimuth position indicator and weapon pointing capability
with 1 mil fine adjustment. A self-contained unit that provides
position (elevation and azimuth)display is desired. 2)A T&E that allows
for rapid and bold adjustment. T&E display provides weapon elevation
and azimuth during bold adjustments. 3) A mount capable of being
folded, collapsed or otherwise reduced in size, without disassemble,
into a compact package for storage and transporting during Airborne
operations. Overall mount length less than the M122 when
folded/collapsed for transport. 4) Have a geometry that takes advantage
of the full range and versatility of the M240B and M249 weapons, and
allows the weapon to maintain consistent elevation/depresion throughout
the full range of weapon traverse. 5) The gound mount must be able to
mount both the M240B and M249 in ground mount applications without the
need for adapters. Interested firms should submit leterature/brochures
describing their concepts in electronic format using MS Word, MS Excel
and MS Power Point compatible formates to Bonnie Holland, EMAIL
