A -- SOURCES SOUGHT FOR A COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE LIFE RAFT INFLATION VALVE. DUE 011199 POC Contracting Officer Douglas M. Smith (301)227-1640 The Combatant Craft Department of the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, is looking for potential sources for a commercially available life raft inflation valve. Interested parties should provide product information and should respond to the following questions. This announcement should not be considered as a request for proposals. Any future procurements developed as a result of findings of this notice shall be synopsized in accordance with FAR 5.205. The information requested is for the sole use of the Government and will be treated as business sensitive data. Characteristics: The valve should have minimal internal components in order to minimize mechanical complexity and to improve reliability and should be user repairable. A system which discharges the gas without the use of springs or piercing mechanisms is desired. The physical characteristics and interface requirements for the inflation valve are: a) Min Rated Working Pressure: 5000 lbs/in2 @ 70 F b) Min Proof Pressure: 8333 lbs/in2 c) Actuation Force: 20-30 lbs d) Max Actuation Travel: 1/2 in e) Pressure Safety Relief: 6200-7200 lbs/in2 f) Valve Threads: Externally threaded 1 1/16 -12UN 2A, 1 inch total full thread length with "O" ring seal at cylinder port interface g) Temperature Range: -22 F to 160 F h) Anti-recoil Discharge Port: Externally threaded .375-18 NGS NPSM i) Materials: Min corrosion resistance characteristics of class 316 stainless steel j) Production History: At least five years experience as OEM of life raft inflation valves to two life raft manufacturers. If warranted, a solicitation package may be developed at a future date.
