notice., philip.pulver@pnl.gov. The Pacific Northwest National
Laboratory is conducting a survey to identify potential licensees for
the marketing, distribution and/or further development of the
Java-based LiveUpdate software product developed for the Department of
Energy. LiveUpdate is a simple set of Java classes that provides
deployment control of Java applications. When executed as part of the
main Java application, LiveUpdate will monitor a Web site for updating
instructions, and if found, will perform actions such as downloading
and installing the latest Jar files for the application. The software
is easily configured, and comes fully compiled and self contained for
use with any Java application. The only pre-requisite is that the Java
Virtual Machine used for running the application must be at least 1.1,
and the Swing classes must be present in the Classpath. (For Java 1.2
users, Swing is built-in and is not an issue) The system is designed so
that any application (even pre-built applications) can easily add
LiveUpdate to its features. Completely separate from any other Java
application, LiveUpdate does not involve any additional coding by the
original application. Developers can readily embed LiveUpdate with
their existing applications Interested and qualified firms should
respond in writing, emailed or postmarked or faxed no later than
October 20, 1999. Posted 09/28/99 (W-SN385780). (0271) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0015 19990930\D-0005.SOL)
