66 -- XRF SPECTRUM ANALYZER NITON XL-722Q DUAL-SOURCE BULK SAMPLE ANALYZER OR EQUAL SOL 00-SQ-49-0001 DUE 101299 POC TECHNICAL CONTACT: Linda Calton (801) 379-1273; PURCHASING AGENT, Nancy Biddinger, phone (801) 379-1119, fax (801) 379-1159, e-mail nbiddinger@uc.usbr.gov WEB: Acquisition Office, Upper Colorado Region, Bureau of, http://ideasec.usgs.gov. E-MAIL: Nancy Biddinger, nbiddinger@uc.usbr.gov. Niton XL-722Q Dual-Source Bulk Sample Analyzer or equal 888-006R 10 mCiCd-109, 14 mCi Am-241. DISPLAY: System must display complete x-ray spectrum from 3 KeV -- 88 KeV for each reading with sufficient resolution displaying spectrum conclusively confirms the presence of absence of significant quantities of RCRA 8 metals including lead, arsenic, selenium, mercury, cadmium, silver and barium. AUTOMATED DATA ENTRY: Automated, barcode-based, data-entry system for test site and sample information. Data-entry system must accommodate user-defined inputs and be fully integrated with the system downloading and reporting software. RADIOACTIVE SOURCE: Use a cadmium-109 (109Cd) and americium-241 (241Am) for bulk sample analysis. RADIATION: Radiation Exposure: Radiation on user's hand with safety shutter open during reading not to exceed 0.1 mR/hour. Travel and Shipping Restrictions: Must not require radiation label on carrying case. Conforms to 49CFR 173.421 for "excepted package", instruments and articles, N.O.S. UN2910. WEIGHT AND SIZE: Single, self-contained unit, weighing no more than 3 pounds, including batteries. Exterior dimensions must not exceed 9"x3"x2". Comes equipped with belt holster for safe transport into soil excavation sites. ADDITIONAL FEATURES: 1. Auto-calibration: System must always self-calibrate before testing is enabled. 2. Automatic Detector Cooling: System must electrically regulate the temperature of its x-ray detector to prevent inconsistent and/or highly variable results caused by shifts in ambient temperature. 3. Reading Speed ad a Function of Source-Age: System must self-adjust reading times for age of radioisotope source. Reading times (in real, or "live", seconds) with one-year-old (12-month-old) source must not exceed twice the system reading times with a new source. 4. Utilize a thermo-electrically cooled Silicon PIN dioide detector with resolution less than 350eV at the 5.95keV Mn K-line. 5. System must utilize NiMH battery packs which provide at least 8 hours of continual use on afull charge. BULK SAMPLE ANALYSIS: System must analyze prepared soil samples in 60 seconds with a lead-in-soil detection limit of 20 ppm. Capable of demonstrating ELPAT proficiency, and must meet the instrument specification for EPA method 6200: Field Portable X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometry For the Determination of Elemental Concentration in Soil and Sediment. System must utilize Compton Normalization technique for metal quantification in bulk samples. System must not require matrix-specific calibration or standardization. System accessory kit must include certified NIST soil standards for quality control and system accuracy verification, including NIST 2709, NIST 2710, and NIST 2711 standards. THIN SAMPLE ANALYSIS: System must be able to be upgraded to include Thin Sample Analysis capabilities, including ambient air filter, personal exposure monitoring air filter, and dust wipe analysis modes.
