Specialist, 703/602-3102x226 NAVY MARINE CORPS INTRANET -- The United
States Navy and United States Marine Corps intend to enter into a
long-term arrangement with the commercial sector to deliver
comprehensive, end-to-end information services including associated
capital infrastructure improvements necessary to meet quality of
service requirements, as well as maintenance, training, and operation
of that infrastructure. This initiative is known as the Navy Marine
Corps Intranet (NMCI). The scope of this effort includes everything
necessary to ensure the secure transmission of voice, video, and data
information between authorized users within the Continental United
States (CONUS) and Hawaii. The draft Statement of Objectives (SOO), the
associated draft Design Reference Memorandum (DRM), and a request for
industry comments on the documents are posted to the NMCI website at
http://www.contracts.hq.navsea.navy.mil/nmci/. These documents provide
the most current description of the operational environment and
functional requirements of the NMCI. Please note that a formal
solicitation is not available at this time; this correspondence is only
a request for industry comment, due on or before 29 October 1999. It
does not constitute a request for proposal, and should not be
considered a commitment of any kind by the Government to procure NMCI
