99 -- ANTENNA ELEVATION COUNTERWEIGHT ASSEMBLIES SOL RFQ557-10-99 DUE 102799 POC Rena Cerbone, Contracting Officer, Telephone 617/495-7445, Fax 617/495/7485, or email rcerbone@cfa.harvard.edu The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO) is issuing a Request for Quotation #RFQ557-10-99 for the purchase of two (2) sets of Antenna Elevation Counterweight Assemblies, for shipment to the summit of Mauna Kea in Hawaii. Each set consists of one (1) left hand and one (1) right hand counterweight. Each Antenna Counterweight Assembly consists of two (2) 7000 lbs each (14,000 lbs total per set) counterweight assemblies each consisting of two (2) mirrored pieces. Each piece consists of a complex steel weldment approximately 1.5 meters long and 1.4 meters wide with one end filled with 5,450 lbs of lead, (10,900 lbs per set). The steel weldment will require extensive drilling and cutting to meet precise assembly tolerances. Delivery is four (4) months ARO, FOB: Destination. Requests for Quotation will be evaluated on: (1) Total price for the two (2) sets and (2) Past Performance, to include Contractor's prior contracts with manufacturing similar assemblies of comparable size and material.
