Department of Education, requests expressions of interest from
qualified candidates for the above position: The Department of
Education (DOE) requires the services of an Experienced Technical
Advisor (TA), to be contracted by USAID/South Africa and serve in the
national Department of Education. The Advisor will be responsible for
the overall coordination and management of the Life Skills and HIV/AIDS
Education project. This will include Advising the DOE on: $ the timely
and effective implementation of the Life Skills and HIV/AIDS Education
project; $ the implementation of the promulgated national policy on
HIV/AIDS; $ HIV/AIDS related matters in Higher Education.
Qualifications: An advanced degree or demonstrated equivalent technical
knowledge in education and/or public health matters is required.
Demonstrated knowledge of the full range of technical, socio-economic,
cultural and policy issues related to HIV/AIDS, especially pertaining
to the Southern African region, as well as specific knowledge
regarding HIV/AIDS education and communication. Proven ability to
communicate cross-culturally with a wide range of public and private
sector counterparts. Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to
engage in pro-active discussions with high level SA government
officials. Proficiency in the use of computer word processing,
spreadsheets, and presentation programs. Knowledge of South African
official languages is an advantage. The incumbent must have extreme
sensitivity to HIV/AIDS related issues and be a team layer of the
highest calibre. The candidate must be committed to a non-racial,
non-sexist education system. The Department is seeking a person with at
least 5 years of Experience working on HIV/AIDS issues with at least
two years working on programs in Southern Africa. A minimum of two
years experience managing programs related to policy, research,
training and/or service delivery. Knowledge and experience of working
in the government sector will be an advantage. Submit a resume (CV)
