the intent of the National Library of Medicine (NLM) to procure
exhibition designer services to develop a flexible exhibition furniture
system to be used within NLM's galleries and design the first temporary
exhibition which utilizes some existing furniture and incorporates the
new furniture system. Services include but are not limited to: 1)
interview staff and managers for system requirements and functions for
past and future exhibitions; 2) review photographs of earlier
exhibitions; 3) secure and prepare plans and drawings of current and
future exhibition spaces; 4) prepare base plans, elevations, and
sections of exhibition spaces including electrical locations, available
power, Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) locations, lighting
sources and media/communications connections; 5) outline component
parts of the system to include pedestals, platforms, moveable walls,
small theater designs, moveable media housings, graphics and labeling
systems, cases, interior case props; 6) provide sketches and sample
plans to indicate system uses; 7) provide material and color boards to
indicate finished system and potential for future modification; 8)
provide a Design Guidelines Document that includes a narrative written
which describes the physical and graphic systems; provide design
guidelines for proper installations indicating heights, layouts,
stabilization methods, hanging requirements, typeface sizes, media
systems, murals, interior prop systems and other such system
requirements to maintain long-term design continuity and flexibility;
provide plan layouts to indicate modularity principles and elevations
to indicate proportion, sizing and aesthetic considerations of content
layouts. Offeror should describe the firm's methodology and approach
to solving creative problems and managing projects. Offeror should
identify key principles that will work on this project and the firm's
qualifications and experience. Offeror should demonstrate the firm's
ability in designing exhibitions with engaging interactive experiences
and has a portfolio of past projects, which demonstrate high
professional standards and aesthetic solutions to exhibition interiors.
Offeror should demonstrate the firm's ability to generate creative
medica concepts and develop working and cost-effective exhibition
systems. Offeror should describe the firm's design capabilities
relating to developing graphic identities for projects, graphic
production coordination, print design, and online design or a
successful working relationship with a graphic designer. Offeror should
demonstrate's the firm's capability of producing team and production
documents using Quark, Photoshop, CAD, Powerpoint, Excel, Filemaker
Pro, and Word software programs. This service will procure under FAR
Part 13 (Simplified Acquisitions). Request for Quotations (RFQ) Number
