necessary for Engineering and Manufacturing Development (E&MD) of the
Advanced Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAAV), including: completing the
design of the AAAV, manufacturing and testing eleven prototype
vehicles, performing long-term logistics and training preparation for
fielding, and providing logistics support for all prototypes. The
primary objectives of E&MD are to: translate the design approach
developed during the Program Development and Risk Reduction (PDRR)
phase into a stable, interoperable, producible, supportable, and
cost-effective design; validate the manufacturing or production
process; and demonstrate system capabilities through testing. The EMD
contract will run from Dec 00 through Sep 05. The current PDRR phase of
the AAAV Program is being conducted by General Dynamics Land Systems
(GDLS), operating through its General Dynamics Amphibious Systems
